It is improper to believe that the CDC Eviction Moratorium Order instituted a rent holiday for people who were negatively impacted by Covid-19. That interpretation is simply too broad.
The first Qualification for Tenants who sign a Declaration of a Covered Person is that they have “used best efforts to obtain all available government assistance for rent or housing.”
However, some Tenants, who have presented Declarations to their Landlords, have not actually sought out “all” of their available options. Today’s video digs deeper into the intent of the CDC Eviction Moratorium Order, which describes its objectives as:
• Mitigating the spread of COVID–19 within living quarters and for homeless individuals;
• Mitigating the further spread of COVID–19 between states and territories; and
• Supporting response efforts to COVID–19 throughout the US.
The CDC’s intent is to keep Americans safe, but there is more than one way to do that, and the CDC Order itself, shows us where we need to look. Watch this video to hear my explanation of the order.
