This is a very easy DO.
I can remember how confident I was before I bought my first home. This, by the way, was me BEFORE law school. I did all the research and narrowed down all of the “best” prospects to come up with a TOP 5 list. At the insistence of a friend of mine, and against my better judgment, I called a real estate agent that she recently used and made an appointment.
He was an older gentleman and very polite. He reviewed my TOP 5 and offered to personally drive us around to see each of them. I was convinced this was a total waste of time, but I gave him our budget range and the age range of the house we were looking for. He proceeded to show us all of my TOP 5 houses, each one more horrible than the last.
I remember standing in my “slam dunk third pick,” as he explained how kids must have broken into the garage. They had left a helpful service announcement above the fireplace: “Don’t leave spray paint behind @$&holes.” We all agreed it was good advice. Much of their other decorating was less helpful.
In the end, he drove us to a community where a few new houses were being built. There was no way we, at 24 years old, buying our first house, were going to be able to…Well, guess what. He made it happen. He knew the builder had marked prices down for a quick sale, and he knew about a first-time home buyer program we might be eligible for that put the sales price into our budget range. We ended up with a super deal on a brand-new house. Talking to a real estate agent was the best decision I (eventually) made.
Buying, Selling, Renting? I always recommend talking to a good real estate agent. If you’re thinking about a real estate transaction and have more questions about using an agent, give us a call at (832) 305-7694.
